Greece Tourist Visa

Who Should Apply for a Greece Tourist Visa?

A Greece tourist visa is intended for Turkish citizens planning holidays, sightseeing trips or island visits. Ordinary Turkish passport holders generally need a visa before travelling. Holders of special, service or diplomatic passports may qualify for short-stay exemptions, but should check current entry rules before departure. This guidance concerns applications submitted from Türkiye.

Tourist travel normally falls under the short-stay Schengen category, known as a Type C visa. Visits must remain within the limit of 90 days in any 180-day period across the Schengen area. The validity dates, permitted stay and entry allowance printed on the visa also apply. Tourism does not authorise employment or long-term residence. Seasonal island-entry arrangements may operate under different rules.

Application Requirements

Apply through Greece when it is your only or main destination. For multi-country trips, the purpose of travel and the country where you will spend the most time determine responsibility. If stays are equal and no other main destination can be identified, the first country of entry becomes relevant. Appointment availability alone does not justify choosing Greece.

Your passport should generally have been issued within the previous 10 years, remain valid for at least three months after your intended departure from the Schengen area, and contain sufficient blank visa pages. Application details, accommodation and transport arrangements should agree. Travel medical insurance must cover the entire visit throughout the Schengen area and satisfy the applicable minimum coverage requirements.

You must demonstrate how the trip will be funded. Account activity, regular income, employment or study status, and reasons to return to Türkiye are considered together. Sponsored travellers should explain the relationship and provide evidence of the sponsor's finances. Applications for children may require parental signatures, consent documents or custody records, depending on the arrangements.

Application Steps

  1. Set your itinerary: Identify travel dates, destinations, accommodation and transport. Check which country should handle a multi-country application.
  2. Confirm the submission channel: Check the consular jurisdiction for your Turkish province of residence and obtain its current document checklist.
  3. Prepare the file: Complete the form and assemble financial, occupational, insurance and booking records. Resolve inconsistencies before submission.
  4. Attend your appointment: Submit the documents, provide biometrics when required, pay the applicable charges and retain your tracking receipt.
  5. Check the outcome: When your passport is returned, verify personal details, validity dates, permitted entries and authorised length of stay.

Requirements for document age, translations and originals may vary by submission location. Non-refundable purchases before a decision create financial risk. Reservations must nevertheless be genuine, verifiable and consistent with the proposed journey.

Appointments and Biometrics

Book through the authorised channel serving your place of residence. Summer holidays and public holiday periods can reduce appointment availability. Each family member needs an individual form and supporting documents; submitting applications together does not mean everyone will receive the same decision.

Applicants may need to provide fingerprints and a photograph. Previously recorded Schengen fingerprints can sometimes be reused for approximately 59 months, subject to the applicable conditions. Fresh fingerprints or personal attendance may still be requested. Children under 12 are exempt from fingerprint collection, but that exemption does not automatically remove attendance requirements.

Processing Time

An admissible application is normally examined in approximately 15 calendar days. Further checks or requests for evidence can extend this to around 45 calendar days in individual cases. Appointment waiting times, passport dispatch and collection should be allowed for separately. Avoid planning departure solely around the typical examination period.

Applications can generally be lodged up to six months before travel and should ordinarily be submitted at least 15 calendar days before departure. Confirm current submission arrangements with the responsible mission. Additional documents or an interview may be requested. Previous visas do not determine the outcome or validity of a new visa.

Common Reasons for Refusal

Possible grounds include an unclear travel purpose, insufficient or unverifiable funds, inconsistent reservations, unsuitable insurance or doubts about departure before the authorised stay ends. False documents can have serious consequences. Previous overstays and entry restrictions may also affect the assessment.

If refused, read the decision notice for the reasons, appeal procedure and deadlines. A fresh application should address the identified issues. A visa does not provide unconditional admission: border authorities may request evidence of accommodation, insurance, onward travel and available funds.
