USA B1/B2 Tourist & Business Visa

Son güncelleme:

Who Is the U.S. B1/B2 Visitor Visa For?

The B1/B2 visa is intended for Turkish citizens planning a temporary visit to the United States for tourism or permitted business activities. B1 activities include attending business meetings, negotiating contracts and participating in professional conferences. B2 covers holidays, visits to relatives or friends, and medical treatment under appropriate conditions. These purposes are commonly combined on one visa.

A visitor visa does not authorize employment in the United States or enrollment in a degree program. Attending a business meeting is different from performing work or delivering services locally. Applicants should check that their planned activities fit the visitor category. Holding a valid visa also does not guarantee admission at the border.

Application Requirements

Applicants should be able to explain why they are traveling, how long they expect to stay and how they will cover their expenses. Employment, education, family responsibilities and financial circumstances in Türkiye may help establish the context of a temporary visit. No single document or fixed bank balance determines the outcome.

Your passport must meet the validity rules applicable to your circumstances. The DS-160 should contain accurate personal details, employment history and travel information. Previous visa refusals, U.S. visits and any overstays must be disclosed where requested. Inaccurate or misleading statements can affect both the current application and future eligibility.

Supporting evidence should reflect your situation as an employee, business owner, student, retiree or sponsored traveler. Financial sponsorship does not replace an assessment of the applicant's own circumstances. Invitation letters may support business or family visits, but they are not a universal requirement for tourism applications.

Application Steps

  1. Define your travel purpose: Outline your intended activities and approximate dates. Confirm that the proposed trip is suitable for B1/B2 status.
  2. Complete the DS-160: Prepare a separate form for each traveler. Check passport details, application location and photo requirements, then save the confirmation page.
  3. Use the authorized appointment service: Follow the service identified by the U.S. Mission in Türkiye. Create your profile, pay the application fee as instructed and select an available appointment.
  4. Prepare supporting documents: Collect the core application records and relevant evidence of your travel purpose, finances and plans to return to Türkiye.
  5. Attend and follow up: Answer interview questions clearly and truthfully. Monitor official channels for passport delivery updates or requests for further information.

Nonrefundable flight tickets and prepaid accommodation are not prerequisites for applying. An outline itinerary can explain the trip without creating unnecessary financial commitments. Family members traveling together still need individual applications and are assessed separately.

Appointments and Biometrics

Applicants in Türkiye should check the official scheduling service for interview locations and available appointments. Services offered in Ankara and Istanbul, as well as booking conditions, may change. Appointment waiting times fluctuate with demand and should not be confused with the time required to issue a visa.

Most applicants are expected to attend an interview and provide fingerprints. Procedures may differ according to age, previous visa history and current policy. Interview-waiver arrangements can change, so holding an earlier visa does not automatically mean that an interview is unnecessary. An officer may request an interview when needed.

Bring your passport, DS-160 confirmation and the documents listed in your appointment instructions. Check current photo specifications and security restrictions before attending. Children also require separate applications; verify the applicable attendance rules and any parental documentation requirements.

Processing Time

The overall timeline includes appointment availability, post-interview processing and passport return. An initial outcome may be communicated at the interview, but printing and delivery take additional time. Further document requests or administrative processing can extend the wait. There is no reliable completion date that applies to every case.

Visa validity and authorized stay are separate matters. Border officers decide admission and the permitted period of stay for each visit; the admission record is generally available through I-94. A long-validity or multiple-entry visa does not permit continuous residence or guarantee the same admission period on every trip.

Reasons an Application May Be Refused

Possible concerns include an unclear travel purpose, finances that do not support the proposed trip, inconsistent answers or insufficient evidence that the visit meets temporary-stay requirements. Previous violations and misrepresentation can also affect eligibility. Some cases require additional documents or administrative processing before further action is possible.

Read any refusal notice carefully. A new application may be possible, but submitting unchanged information does not ensure a different decision. Review the stated grounds and any relevant changes in your circumstances before deciding whether to apply again.

Sıkça Sorulan Sorular

The authorized stay is determined at admission, separately from the visa's expiration date. Check your I-94 record for the permitted period; a visa valid for several years does not authorize a stay of that length.
