Who Is the Finland Business Visa For?
A Finland business visa is a short-stay, type C Schengen visa for meetings, supplier visits, trade fairs, contract negotiations and similar business activities. Turkish citizens travelling on ordinary passports generally need a visa. Holders of special, service or diplomatic passports may qualify for short-stay exemptions; current rules should be checked against the passport category and planned activities.
This visa does not provide general permission to take employment in Finland. Activities involving actual work may require a different authorisation, depending on their nature and duration. Short stays throughout the Schengen area are limited to 90 days in any 180-day period, counting time spent in all participating countries together.
Application Requirements
Finland must be your sole or main destination. For a multi-country itinerary, the main destination is determined by the purpose and length of the visits. If no main destination can be established, responsibility normally rests with the country of first entry. An earlier appointment alone is not a valid reason to apply through another country.
Your passport should have been issued within the previous 10 years, remain valid for at least three months after your intended departure from the Schengen area, and contain at least two blank pages. You also need a completed application form, a compliant photograph and travel medical insurance. Insurance must cover the entire stay throughout Schengen, with at least EUR 30,000 in cover for emergency treatment, hospital care and repatriation for medical reasons.
The invitation should identify the Finnish host, provide contact details and explain the visit's purpose and dates. A letter from your Turkish employer should confirm your position, business reason for travelling and funding arrangements. An invitation alone is insufficient: financial evidence, professional circumstances and plans to return to Türkiye are assessed together.
Application Steps
- Define your itinerary: Confirm the meetings, destinations, travel dates and accommodation arrangements.
- Check current instructions: Review the business visa checklist applicable to applications submitted in Türkiye.
- Prepare your file: Complete the form and collect consistent invitation, employment, financial and travel documents.
- Attend your appointment: Submit the application, pay the applicable charges and complete any required biometric procedures.
- Follow the outcome: Respond to additional requests and check the visa details when your passport is returned.
Check the current requirements for translations, originals and copies before submission. Answer questions about previous refusals and travel history accurately. Non-refundable bookings can create financial risk before a decision is issued, so review cancellation conditions carefully. Any changes to the business schedule should remain consistent with the supporting documents.
Appointments and Biometrics
Book through the application channel designated for Finland in Türkiye. An application centre receives documents but does not decide whether a visa is issued. Appointment availability varies by location and season. An approaching trade fair or meeting does not automatically entitle an applicant to priority processing.
Fingerprints from a previous Schengen application may be reused if collected within the preceding 59 months and retrievable from the system. New fingerprints or personal attendance can nevertheless be requested. An existing biometric record does not automatically mean a representative may submit your application.
Processing Time
An admissible application normally takes approximately 15 calendar days to process, but examination may extend to 45 calendar days where further checks or documents are needed. Appointment waiting times and passport delivery are additional. Applications can generally be lodged up to six months before travel and should normally be submitted at least 15 calendar days before departure. Check current arrangements and allow a practical buffer.
Reasons for Refusal
Possible reasons include an inadequately documented business purpose, conflicting travel details, insufficient financial evidence or doubts about the reliability of the information provided. Inadequate insurance, previous overstay issues and doubts about departure before the permitted stay ends can also affect the decision. A single account balance does not replace a coherent explanation of funding.
A refusal notice explains the grounds and the available review procedure. Address those grounds before reapplying. Even an issued visa does not guarantee admission: border officers may request evidence of the visit and accommodation.
