Who Is the Finland Tourist Visa For?
A Finland tourist visa is a short-stay Schengen category C visa for Turkish citizens travelling for holidays, sightseeing, nature trips or other tourist activities. Holders of ordinary Turkish passports generally need a visa before travelling. Holders of special, service and diplomatic passports are generally exempt for short visits, but should verify the current conditions for their passport category. A tourist visa does not authorise employment or long-term residence in Finland.
Short stays in the Schengen area cannot exceed 90 days in any rolling 180-day period. Days spent in other Schengen countries count towards this limit. Travellers must also respect the validity dates, permitted duration of stay and number of entries shown on their visa. A valid visa does not automatically ensure admission: border officers may request evidence of accommodation, sufficient funds and the purpose of the visit.
Application Requirements
Finland must be your only or main destination. For an itinerary covering several Schengen countries, the main destination is assessed by the purpose and length of the visits. If no main destination can be identified and stays are equal, the country of first entry determines where to apply. Finding an earlier appointment in Finland is not, by itself, a valid reason to submit your application there.
Your passport should have been issued within the previous ten years, contain at least two blank pages and remain valid for at least three months after your intended departure from the Schengen area. Travel medical insurance must cover the entire planned stay throughout Schengen, with minimum cover of EUR 30,000 for risks including emergency medical care, hospital treatment and repatriation for medical reasons.
You must explain how you will finance the trip and provide evidence supporting your intention to return to Türkiye. Employment, studies, regular income, bank account activity and family responsibilities may be relevant. If someone sponsors your travel, include their financial evidence, a support statement and proof of your relationship. Applications for children may require parental consent and custody documents, depending on who accompanies them.
Application Steps
- Confirm your itinerary: Set your dates, accommodation and any additional Schengen destinations to establish the correct country of application.
- Check current instructions: Consult Finland's official information for applicants in Türkiye and the authorised application centre's tourist visa checklist.
- Prepare your file: Complete the form and gather consistent passport, financial, employment, transport, accommodation and insurance documents.
- Attend your appointment: Submit the documents, pay the applicable charges and provide biometric data where required.
- Follow the application: Respond to additional requests and check all visa details once your passport is returned.
Reservations should reflect a genuine, coherent itinerary. Purchasing non-refundable flights or accommodation before a decision creates financial risk. Flexible bookings may help limit that exposure, but all supporting documents should remain accurate and verifiable. Check the current instructions for accepted document languages and any translation requirements.
Appointments and Biometrics
Applications from Türkiye are submitted through the channel currently authorised by Finland. An application centre collects documents; the competent Finnish authorities decide the application. Appointment availability varies with location and demand, particularly around summer holidays and the winter travel season.
Applicants generally provide fingerprints and a photograph. Fingerprints recorded for an earlier Schengen application may be reused for approximately 59 months, although fresh fingerprints or personal attendance can still be requested. Children under 12 are exempt from fingerprint collection, but still need their own application and supporting documents.
Processing Time
Under normal circumstances, an admissible application is usually decided in approximately 15 calendar days. Where further examination or additional documents are needed, processing may extend to approximately 45 calendar days. Appointment waiting times, document transfers and passport delivery can add to the overall timeline. These estimates should not be treated as a commitment to return your passport before departure.
Applications can generally be lodged up to six months before travel. The standard rule is to apply at least 15 calendar days before departure; allowing a wider margin is advisable during busy periods. Check current processing notices and public holidays when planning.
Reasons an Application May Be Refused
Possible reasons include an unclear travel purpose, insufficient or unverifiable funds, inconsistent bookings, unsuitable insurance or concerns about document authenticity. Previous visa violations and insufficient evidence that the applicant will leave Schengen after the visit may also affect the assessment.
If refused, read the decision carefully for the grounds and the applicable review procedure and deadlines. Before reapplying, address the issues identified rather than assuming an unchanged file will lead to a different outcome.
