Who Can Apply for a Denmark Family or Friend Visit Visa?
Turkish citizens planning a short visit to relatives or friends in Denmark may need a Schengen Type C visa. This category covers temporary trips such as family gatherings, celebrations and holidays with a host. It is not a route for long-term residence, family reunification or employment. Your application should explain whom you will visit, where you will stay and how the trip will be funded.
Ordinary Turkish passport holders generally require a visa. Holders of special, service or diplomatic passports may qualify for short-stay exemptions, subject to current rules and travel purpose. The Schengen short-stay limit is 90 days in any 180-day period, counting time spent across all Schengen countries. Your visa may authorise a shorter stay.
Application Requirements
Denmark should be your sole or main destination. For itineraries covering several Schengen countries, the principal purpose and length of stay determine where to apply. If no main destination can be identified, the country of first entry becomes relevant. Applications submitted in Türkiye must also meet the responsible Danish mission’s residence and jurisdiction requirements.
Your passport should have been issued within the previous ten years, remain valid for at least three months after your intended departure from the Schengen area and contain sufficient blank pages. Travel medical insurance must cover the planned travel dates throughout the Schengen area, including emergency treatment and medical repatriation, with minimum coverage of EUR 30,000.
Your host should provide their identity, Danish address, lawful residence status and relationship to you. Follow current instructions on using an online invitation or the relevant invitation form. The invitation should specify travel dates, accommodation arrangements and who will pay the expenses. An invitation does not replace evidence of your own circumstances, finances or reasons to return to Türkiye.
Application Steps
- Define your itinerary: Confirm your host, travel dates, accommodation and any visits to other Schengen countries.
- Complete the official application: Use Denmark’s current online visa application system and follow the instructions for payment and signed documents.
- Prepare supporting evidence: Gather your invitation, financial records, insurance and documents matching your employment or personal situation.
- Book an appointment: Check current booking and submission arrangements with the authorised application centre in Türkiye.
- Submit and follow up: Provide your documents and any required biometrics, respond to additional requests and collect your passport after processing.
Dates in the application, invitation, travel reservations and insurance should match. Check the current document checklist for translation requirements and whether originals or copies are needed. Buying non-refundable flights before a decision creates a financial risk; confirm whether reservations are sufficient for submission.
Appointments and Biometrics
Appointment availability varies by location and season. Applications can generally be lodged up to six months before the intended trip, but appointment waiting times should be considered separately. The application centre receives documents and collects biometric information where required. It does not decide whether a visa will be granted.
Fingerprints recorded for a previous Schengen application within the past 59 months may be reused under certain conditions. New fingerprints may nevertheless be requested if records cannot be retrieved or identity checks require them. Children under 12 are exempt from fingerprint collection, but still need their own application and any required parental consent documents.
Processing Time
The standard decision period for an admissible application is generally around 15 calendar days. Cases requiring further examination or additional evidence may take up to approximately 45 calendar days. Appointment queues, document transfers and passport return are separate considerations. Public holidays and seasonal demand should also be factored into planning.
Applying close to departure does not ensure a decision before your flight. Check current processing notices and allow flexibility in your itinerary. The authorities may request an interview or further explanations; respond within the deadline and through the channel specified.
Reasons for Refusal
Possible grounds include an unclear visit purpose, insufficient evidence of the relationship with your host, inadequate funds or unexplained account transactions. Inconsistent documents, unsuitable insurance, previous overstay issues and doubts about timely departure may also affect the assessment. A complete document set does not automatically lead to approval.
A refusal notice explains the grounds and any available appeal procedure. Check that notice for the applicable deadline, submission method and responsible authority. Before applying again, address the previous concerns with relevant evidence and explanations rather than resubmitting an unchanged file.
