Who Can Apply for a Denmark Tourist Visa?

A Denmark tourist visa is a short-stay Schengen visa for Turkish citizens planning a holiday, sightseeing trip or cultural visit. It normally permits stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period across the Schengen area. Days spent in other Schengen countries count towards the same limit. The validity dates, permitted duration of stay and number of entries printed on the visa must also be respected.

Turkish ordinary passport holders generally need a visa. Special, service and diplomatic passport holders may qualify for short-stay exemptions and should verify the current conditions before travelling. A tourist visa does not authorise employment or long-term residence. If the main purpose is visiting relatives, business or study, applicants should select the category that accurately reflects their plans.

Application Requirements

Denmark must be the sole or main destination for an application submitted to its authorities in Türkiye. For a sightseeing itinerary covering several Schengen countries, this is generally the country where the applicant will spend the most time. If stays are equal, the country of first entry normally determines where to apply. Appointment availability alone is not a valid reason to choose a different country.

  • The passport must have been issued within the previous 10 years, remain valid for at least three months after the intended Schengen departure and contain at least two blank pages.
  • Travel medical insurance must cover the full visit throughout the Schengen area, including emergency treatment and medical repatriation, with a minimum cover of EUR 30,000.
  • Applicants must document accessible funds for transport, accommodation and daily expenses, with a credible explanation of their source.
  • The itinerary, accommodation arrangements and evidence of professional or personal ties to Türkiye should support a coherent travel plan.

Supporting documents vary for employees, business owners, students, pensioners and sponsored travellers. A bank balance alone does not establish financial credibility: income, account activity and the trip budget are considered together. Large recent deposits may require supporting evidence. Applications for children can require additional consent or custody documents.

Application Steps

  1. Confirm your itinerary: Set your travel dates and the time planned in each country to identify the correct authority.
  2. Check official instructions: Consult Denmark's current guidance for Türkiye to find the authorised application centre and relevant document checklist.
  3. Complete the online application: Enter your details in the official system and follow the instructions for payment, printing and signing.
  4. Prepare and book: Collect the documents matching your circumstances and arrange an appointment.
  5. Submit and monitor: Attend the appointment, provide the required documents and biometrics, and follow any additional-document requests or passport collection notices.

Dates on the form, itinerary, bookings and employment leave letter should agree. Reservations must be genuine and verifiable. Buying non-refundable flights or accommodation before a decision can create financial risk; follow the current official checklist when deciding which booking evidence to provide.

Appointments and Biometrics

Applications in Türkiye are accepted through the authorised application centre, but the relevant Danish authorities make the decision. Appointment availability varies by location and season. Completing the online form or paying the fee does not, by itself, mean that the application has been lodged for examination.

Personal attendance is generally required for document submission and biometric procedures. Fingerprints recorded for a Schengen application within the previous 59 months may be reused, although fresh fingerprints can still be requested. Children under 12 are exempt from fingerprinting, but their attendance requirements should be checked separately.

Processing Time

A complete, admissible short-stay application is generally decided in approximately 15 calendar days. Cases requiring further examination or additional evidence may take up to 45 calendar days. Appointment waiting times, document transfers and passport delivery should be allowed for separately.

Applications can normally be lodged up to six months before travel and should generally be submitted at least 15 calendar days before departure. This minimum interval does not ensure that the passport will be returned in time. Check current processing notices and allow a wider planning margin where possible.

Reasons an Application May Be Refused

Common concerns include an unclear travel purpose, insufficient evidence of funds, inconsistent bookings, inadequate insurance or doubts about document reliability. Insufficient evidence of an intention to return to Türkiye, previous overstay violations or relevant security records may also affect the assessment. Submitting every listed document does not automatically lead to approval.

If refused, read the reasons and appeal instructions in the decision notice carefully. Follow the stated procedure and deadlines. Before submitting a new application, address the issues identified in the previous decision.
