Who Needs a Danish Work Visa?

Turkish citizens planning to take up employment in Denmark generally need the appropriate residence and work permit before starting their job. Although commonly called a work visa, this permission is different from a short-stay Schengen visa. A visa issued for tourism or business visits does not, by itself, authorise regular employment in Denmark. Most employment routes require a specific job offer from a Danish employer.

Potential applicants include qualified professionals, researchers and other employees who meet the requirements of an available scheme. Options include the Positive Lists, salary-based schemes and the Fast-track Scheme for certified employers. The right route depends on the position, qualifications, salary and employer. Having a signed contract does not automatically make an applicant eligible under every scheme.

Application Requirements

Start by matching the job offer to an appropriate permit scheme. A Positive List application requires the occupation to appear on the relevant current list and the applicant to meet its educational requirements. Salary-based routes have specific thresholds and rules on which pay components count. These requirements can change, so they should be checked when preparing the application.

  • Provide a valid passport and a verifiable job offer or employment contract.
  • Ensure that salary, working hours and employment terms meet the scheme requirements and Danish standards.
  • Document relevant education, professional experience and any required qualifications.
  • Obtain Danish professional authorisation if the position is in a regulated profession.

For certain healthcare roles and other regulated occupations, professional authorisation is separate from permission to live and work in Denmark. Family members also need their own appropriate applications; they are not automatically covered by the employee’s permit. Eligibility for accompanying family members should therefore be reviewed separately.

Application Steps

The Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration, known as SIRI, handles employment-based residence and work permit applications. Applicants in Türkiye should follow both the instructions for their chosen SIRI scheme and the current local arrangements for document submission and biometrics. A standard Schengen visitor visa checklist is not a substitute for the employment permit requirements.

  1. Select the scheme that matches the job, salary and qualifications.
  2. Create a case order ID and pay the current application fee where required.
  3. Complete the employer and applicant sections using the relevant application form or online service.
  4. Submit supporting documents and arrange a biometric appointment through the current channel in Türkiye.
  5. Monitor requests for further information and review the permit conditions once a decision is issued.

Depending on the form, the employer may start the application before the employee completes their section. Names, passport details, job titles and salary figures should be consistent throughout the file. Check the accepted languages and translation requirements for Turkish documents. Notarisation or an apostille should not be assumed necessary for every document.

Appointments and Biometrics

The appointment procedure in Türkiye depends on Denmark’s current consular and application centre arrangements. An authorised centre may collect documents and biometric data, but it does not decide whether the permit is granted. Bring your passport, application confirmation, payment evidence and any additional documents specified in the local appointment instructions.

Biometrics may need to be recorded within a prescribed period after online submission. Confirm that deadline before submitting your application and allow time to secure an appointment. Fingerprints previously supplied for a Schengen visa do not necessarily remove the requirement to provide biometrics for a residence card. If appointments are unavailable, contact the responsible service promptly.

Processing Time

Processing depends on the scheme, the completeness of the application and any additional checks. SIRI publishes current service goals for individual routes, but these are planning estimates rather than guaranteed decision dates. Appointment availability in Türkiye, translation work and post-decision arrangements may add time outside the authority’s assessment period.

A contractual start date does not itself authorise employment. Unless the selected scheme expressly allows a different arrangement, applicants should wait for the required permission before starting work. Avoiding non-refundable travel commitments before a decision can reduce financial risk. Passport validity may also limit the period for which a permit can be issued.

Reasons an Application May Be Refused

Possible grounds include failing to meet scheme requirements, unsuitable salary terms, insufficient evidence of qualifications or concerns about the job offer. Inconsistent information, missing documents and unanswered requests can also affect the outcome. Submitting an application does not convert an existing visitor visa into permission to work.

If refused, review the written reasons and any available appeal procedure. An appeal or a fresh application should address the actual issues identified. Changes to the employer, role or salary may require further assessment rather than a simple update to the existing file.

Applying with Hermes Vize

Hermes Vize can assist with an initial review of the application route, document organisation and appointment preparation. The service scope and charges should be agreed in advance; only the competent Danish authorities can decide the application.

The total in Turkish lira can vary with exchange rates and payment arrangements, so confirm the amount before paying. Sıkça Sorulan Sorular

A Schengen visa does not itself authorise regular paid employment. Turkish citizens generally need the appropriate residence and work permit; any limited exemption must be checked against the specific activity and official rules.
