Who Is a Slovenian Business Visa For?
A Slovenian business visa is a short-stay Schengen Type C visa used for meetings, client visits, commercial negotiations, trade fairs and conferences. Turkish citizens applying from Türkiye with ordinary passports generally need a visa unless they already hold a valid travel authorisation that covers the visit or qualify for an exemption. Different short-stay rules may apply to special, service and diplomatic passports, so check the current conditions before travelling.
This visa does not authorise employment in Slovenia. Installation work, technical services, on-site assignments and extended placements may require separate permission, depending on the actual activity. Business travel should therefore be distinguished from carrying out work. Short stays across the Schengen area generally cannot exceed 90 days in any rolling 180-day period.
Application Requirements
Slovenia must be your sole or main destination. For trips covering several Schengen countries, the main destination is assessed using the purpose and length of each stay. If no main destination can be identified and stays are equal, the country of first entry may determine where to apply. Appointment availability alone is not a valid reason to submit an application to a different country.
Your passport should have been issued within the previous ten years, contain sufficient blank pages and remain valid for at least three months after your intended departure from the Schengen area. Travel medical insurance must cover the entire planned stay throughout Schengen, normally with minimum coverage of EUR 30,000. Check that emergency treatment, hospital care and medical repatriation are included.
The file should explain the commercial purpose and identify who will pay for the trip. An invitation from the Slovenian host should describe the planned activity, dates, contact details and any financial commitment. A formal guarantee letter or a specific invitation format may be required in some circumstances. Confirm the applicable requirements using the current official checklist.
Employees should document their position and approved travel through employer letters and employment records. Business owners should provide evidence of their company's activity and finances. Bank statements, accommodation arrangements and transport plans should support a coherent itinerary. Avoid assuming that non-refundable bookings are necessary before a decision; genuine, verifiable reservations can help limit financial exposure.
Application Steps
- Define the visit: Confirm the meetings, event programme, host organisation and intended dates.
- Check where to apply: Consult the Slovenian representation's official information for the authorised submission route in Türkiye.
- Prepare the documents: Complete the form and assemble the invitation, employment, financial, insurance and travel evidence.
- Attend your appointment: Submit the required originals and copies, pay applicable charges and provide biometrics if requested.
- Follow the application: Respond to additional requests and monitor passport collection or delivery arrangements.
Dates, job titles and funding arrangements should match across the application form and supporting documents. Explain material discrepancies rather than leaving them unresolved. Requirements concerning translations, document age and original copies should be checked before submission.
Appointments and Biometrics
Appointment availability varies with demand, holidays and seasonal travel. Applications can generally be lodged up to six months before departure and should normally be submitted at least 15 calendar days before the intended journey. Allow additional preparation time, since finding an appointment is separate from the consular assessment period.
Fingerprint and photograph records may be collected during submission. Fingerprints from an earlier Schengen application can generally be reused within 59 months, but this does not automatically remove the need to attend in person. Fresh fingerprints may be requested if records cannot be retrieved or further verification is necessary. Children under 12 are generally exempt from fingerprint collection.
Processing Time
A standard decision on an admissible short-stay application generally takes around 15 calendar days. Where closer examination or additional evidence is needed, assessment can extend to 45 calendar days. Appointment waiting times and passport delivery are separate. Check current conditions and avoid relying on expedited handling simply because a meeting or trade fair is approaching.
Reasons for Refusal
Possible reasons include an unclear business purpose, an unverifiable invitation, insufficient funds, inconsistent travel arrangements or inadequate insurance. Concerns about the intention to leave Schengen and previous visa breaches may also affect the decision. A refusal notice explains the grounds and available appeal procedure. Address the identified issues before reapplying; submitting an unchanged file does not imply a different outcome.
