Current information on Azerbaijan's visa policy, the ASAN e-visa application, visa-free entry with an ID card, and business visa processes.
Is a Visa Required for Azerbaijan?
The visa policy for citizens of the Republic of Turkey traveling to Azerbaijan is quite flexible. Holders of ordinary (burgundy) Turkish passports are exempt from visas for touristic, business, or personal trips for up to 90 days. Furthermore, according to an agreement that came into effect on April 10, 2021, holders of new-type chip Turkish ID cards can travel to Azerbaijan without a visa for up to 30 days. For stays exceeding 30 days or for specific purposes such as work or education, an appropriate visa type must be applied for.
Types of Azerbaijan Visas and Application Methods
There are different visa and entry options for Azerbaijan depending on the purpose and duration of travel. The most common methods are the electronic visa and long-term visa applications.
Electronic Visa: ASAN Viza System
Azerbaijan's modern and fast visa system, "ASAN Viza," is designed for those traveling to the country for purposes such as tourism, short-term business meetings, and scientific, cultural, or sporting events. E-visas obtained through this system are single-entry and grant a stay of up to 30 days. Applications are made entirely online, and the result is sent to the applicant's email in a short time.
Visa-Free Travel with an ID Card (30 Days)
Citizens of the Republic of Turkey who have new-type chip ID cards can travel to Azerbaijan for tourism purposes for up to 30 days without needing a passport. This practice is valid only for direct flights between the two countries. This method is not suitable for stays longer than 30 days or for different purposes such as work or study.
Business and Commercial Visa
Individuals wishing to conduct commercial activities, participate in fairs, or undertake business trips exceeding 90 days in Azerbaijan must obtain a business visa. For this visa type, an official invitation letter from a company operating in Azerbaijan is typically the foundation of the application. Applications are made directly to Azerbaijan's foreign missions (Embassy/Consulate).
Azerbaijan Visa Application Steps
The application process varies depending on the chosen visa type.

Applications for long-term visas such as business, work, or education are made directly to the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Ankara or the Consulates General in Istanbul and Kars. Important Notes Before Travel
- Passport Validity: When traveling to Azerbaijan, your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your planned date of return.
- 15-Day Rule: All foreign nationals staying in Azerbaijan for more than 15 days are required to register with the State Migration Service ('Miqrasiya Xidməti') within 15 days of their arrival. Hotels where you are staying usually handle this procedure on behalf of their guests free of charge.
