The validity of your visa (often 10 years) is different from the duration you can stay in the US on a single trip. Upon entry, a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer will determine your permitted length of stay and record it on your Form I-94. This period can be up to 6 months but is at the officer's discretion.
