Who Can Apply for a Slovakia Tourist Visa?
A Slovakia tourist visa is a short-stay, type C Schengen visa for holidays, sightseeing and cultural trips. Turkish citizens applying from Türkiye with ordinary passports generally need a visa before travelling. Holders of special, service or diplomatic Turkish passports may qualify for short-stay exemptions and should verify the current conditions for their passport category.
Schengen short stays are limited to 90 days in any 180-day period across the entire area. Your visa may authorise fewer days or entries, so check its validity dates, permitted duration and entry conditions. A tourist visa does not permit employment or long-term residence. Travel primarily involving business, study or visiting relatives should use the appropriate purpose of application.
Application Requirements
Apply through Slovakia when it is your sole or main destination. For multi-country trips, the main destination depends on the purpose and length of the visits. If no main destination can be identified because stays are equally long and serve the same purpose, the country of first entry is responsible. Appointment availability alone is not a valid reason to choose a different country.
Your passport must have been issued within the previous 10 years, contain at least two blank pages and remain valid for at least three months after your intended departure from Schengen. Travel medical insurance must cover the entire Schengen area, including emergency treatment and repatriation for medical reasons, with minimum coverage of EUR 30,000.
You must document accommodation, transport plans, adequate financial resources and circumstances supporting your return to Türkiye. Employment, education, regular income and family responsibilities can help explain your situation. Sponsorship does not replace evidence of your own circumstances. Large recent deposits may require supporting documents establishing where the money came from.
Application Steps
- Set your travel dates and confirm that Slovakia is responsible for your application. Check previous Schengen stays against the rolling short-stay limit.
- Consult the competent Slovak mission's current instructions for applicants in Türkiye. Verify jurisdiction, submission arrangements, appointment procedures and the relevant document checklist.
- Complete and sign the application form. Prepare supporting evidence appropriate to your employment, business ownership, student status or retirement.
- Arrange accommodation, transport reservations and insurance. Ensure that names, dates and the proposed itinerary are consistent throughout the file.
- Attend the appointment, submit your documents and pay the applicable charges. Provide biometrics when required, then monitor requests for additional evidence and passport collection updates.
A brief cover letter can explain your itinerary, funding and personal circumstances. For visits involving several cities, show where you intend to stay each night. Non-refundable purchases before a decision can create financial risk, so review booking and cancellation terms carefully.
Appointments and Biometrics
Appointment availability is separate from application processing time. Check the current submission channel and attendance requirements before making arrangements. Fingerprints recorded for a Schengen application within the previous 59 months may be reused, but technical issues or a request from the authorities can make a fresh appointment necessary.
Children under 12 are exempt from fingerprint collection, not from visa or supporting-document requirements. Applications for minors may require parental consent, custody records and details of the accompanying adult. A previous visa does not automatically remove the need to attend in person.
Processing Time
An admissible short-stay application is generally decided in approximately 15 calendar days. Where additional scrutiny or documents are needed, processing may extend to 45 calendar days. Allow separately for appointment queues, preparation and passport delivery. Applications can generally be lodged up to six months before travel; avoid relying on a last-minute submission.
Common Reasons for Refusal
Refusal may result from an unclear travel purpose, insufficient or unverifiable funds, inconsistent documents or doubts about departure before the authorised stay ends. Inadequate insurance, previous overstays and unreliable bookings can also affect the assessment. A complete-looking file does not necessarily satisfy every condition.
If refused, review the written notice for the reasons and applicable appeal procedure and deadlines. A fresh application should address the underlying concerns with evidence rather than repeat the same file. Even with a valid visa, travellers may be asked to show accommodation, funding and onward or return arrangements at the border.
