Who Is the Slovakia Business Visa For?
A Slovakia business visa is intended for short visits involving meetings, supplier or client visits, trade fairs and contract negotiations. For Turkish citizens applying from Türkiye, these activities generally fall under the short-stay Schengen visa, also known as a type C visa. Employees, business owners and self-employed professionals should document both the commercial purpose of their visit and their professional circumstances.
A business visa does not authorise employment in Slovakia. Installation work, technical assignments and other on-site services may require separate permission, depending on the activity. Short stays across the Schengen area are generally limited to 90 days in any 180-day period. The validity dates, permitted duration of stay and number of entries on the visa sticker must also be respected.
Application Requirements
Slovakia must be your only destination or the main destination of your Schengen trip. For multi-country itineraries, the main destination is determined by the purpose and length of the visits. If no main destination can be identified, the country of first entry normally handles the application. Appointment availability alone is not a valid reason to apply through another country.
Turkish ordinary passport holders generally need a visa. Holders of special, service or diplomatic passports should check the applicable short-stay exemptions through official sources before travelling. Applicants should clearly explain their employment or business activity in Türkiye, financial circumstances, funding arrangements and intended return. A newly established business may need a fuller explanation of its activities and the proposed commercial relationship.
- Your passport should have been issued within the previous ten years, remain valid for at least three months after your intended Schengen departure and contain sufficient blank pages.
- Travel medical insurance must cover the entire visit throughout the Schengen area, with at least EUR 30,000 for the required emergency medical and repatriation expenses.
- The invitation, employer letter, accommodation details and transport plans should present consistent dates and arrangements.
- Identify who will pay for the trip and provide evidence supporting that funding commitment.
Application Steps
Start by confirming that the intended activities qualify as a business visit. Check the current submission channel and jurisdiction rules published by Slovakia’s competent diplomatic mission in Türkiye. Application locations and appointment arrangements can change. Where an external application centre is used, it receives applications but does not make visa decisions.
- Confirm the business purpose, travel dates and main destination.
- Obtain an invitation from the Slovak company or participation evidence from the event organiser.
- Complete the application form and assemble personal, professional and financial documents.
- Book an appointment through the authorised channel and check payment instructions.
- Submit the application and respond to any requests for further evidence or an interview.
- Collect your passport and check the visa details before departure.
The invitation should identify the host organisation, explain the business relationship and describe the visit, dates and expense arrangements. Official verification of an invitation or additional evidence may be required in particular cases. Follow the current checklist for document language, translations, originals and copies rather than assuming every application has identical requirements.
Appointments and Biometrics
Applicants may need to provide fingerprints and a compliant photograph. Fingerprints recorded for a previous Schengen application within the last 59 months may be reused, but the authorities can still request fresh biometrics or personal attendance. Children under twelve are exempt from fingerprint collection.
Appointment availability depends on demand, public holidays and local capacity. The wait for an appointment is separate from visa processing time. Before attending, check signatures, passport details and dates throughout the file. Missing evidence can lead to further document requests or affect the outcome.
Processing Time
An admissible Schengen application is generally processed in approximately 15 calendar days. Cases requiring additional examination can take up to 45 calendar days. Appointment waiting times, document preparation and passport delivery are separate considerations, so a specific decision date cannot be assured.
Applications can generally be lodged up to six months before travel and should normally be submitted at least 15 calendar days before departure. Begin preparations early when attending a fixed-date meeting or trade fair. Consider the financial risk before purchasing non-refundable tickets or accommodation while the application is pending.
Reasons for Refusal
Common concerns include an unclear travel purpose, an invitation that cannot be verified, insufficient evidence of funds and contradictory documents. Weak evidence of an intended return to Türkiye, previous visa breaches or unsuitable insurance may also affect the assessment. An invitation or a history of previous visas does not by itself establish eligibility.
If refused, review the reasons and available remedies in the decision notice. Check the applicable appeal deadline, language and submission requirements. Before applying again, address the issues identified and document any relevant changes in circumstances.
