France Work Visa

Who Is a French Work Visa For?

A French work visa is relevant to Turkish citizens applying from Türkiye who intend to take up employment in France. The appropriate route depends on the contract, length of stay and professional circumstances. A job offer is an important starting point, but it does not automatically grant permission to work or enter France. The employer’s obligations and the applicant’s visa requirements must be addressed separately.

Employment lasting more than 90 days generally requires a long-stay visa. Shorter assignments require an assessment of both short-stay entry rules and any work authorisation requirement. Attending business meetings is not the same as performing paid work in France. Seasonal employment, intra-company assignments, highly qualified roles and self-employment may follow separate routes rather than the standard employee procedure.

Application Requirements

For standard salaried employment, the French employer generally needs to obtain work authorisation from the competent authority. Exemptions and special categories exist, so this requirement should be checked against the actual role. The contract, salary, workplace and job description in the visa application should match the employer’s supporting information. Employment conditions must also comply with applicable French rules.

  • Select a visa category that accurately reflects the proposed activity.
  • Obtain approved work authorisation where the route requires it.
  • Hold a passport meeting the validity and blank-page requirements for the selected visa.
  • Provide qualifications or employment records supporting your suitability for the position.
  • Check professional recognition or registration requirements for regulated occupations.

Evidence of accommodation, initial living funds or healthcare cover may also be requested under the category-specific checklist. There is no universal bank balance or insurance policy suitable for every work application. Check whether individual Turkish documents need translation, an apostille or another form of certification before arranging these services.

Application Steps

  1. Use France-Visas to identify the route matching your activity and intended stay.
  2. Confirm whether your employer must secure work authorisation before you apply.
  3. Complete the online application and review the personalised document checklist.
  4. Book an appointment through the authorised application channel in Türkiye.
  5. Submit your documents, complete the required biometric procedures and track the application.
  6. If a visa is issued, review its details and any obligations after arrival.

Travel plans, the contract start date and accommodation arrangements should be consistent throughout the file. Buying non-refundable tickets before a decision creates financial risk. The application centre receives and forwards applications; the competent French authorities make visa decisions. If additional documents are requested, follow the stated submission method and deadline.

Appointments and Biometrics

Check France-Visas for the current appointment provider and the centre authorised to accept your application in Türkiye. Availability varies by location and season. Applicants are generally expected to attend in person, present their passports and complete photograph and fingerprint procedures where required. Do not assume that fingerprints previously collected for a Schengen visa will remove the need for a new appointment.

Bring your application form, appointment confirmation and documents listed in the official checklist. Follow local instructions concerning originals and copies. Any biometric exemption depends on the applicant’s circumstances and visa category. Optional courier or other application-centre services do not influence the visa decision.

Processing Time

Allow separately for the employer’s work authorisation procedure, appointment availability and visa assessment. The visa stage may take approximately several weeks, but additional checks, missing information or busy periods can extend it. Special talent routes and employer assignments may follow different timelines. Current guidance for your category is more useful than a single estimate for all applicants.

Discuss scheduling uncertainty with your employer before confirming a start date. Visa issuance does not necessarily complete every administrative requirement. Depending on the endorsement, you may need online validation or a residence permit application after arrival. Holders of a VLS-TS generally need to validate it within three months of entering France; always check the instructions attached to your own visa.

Reasons an Application May Be Refused

Possible grounds include missing work authorisation, inconsistent employment details, insufficient evidence of the proposed activity or selection of the wrong category. Concerns about document authenticity, unmet professional requirements and previous visa or stay violations may also affect the assessment. Authorities do not necessarily offer an opportunity to correct every incomplete file.

If refused, read the decision notice carefully before choosing between a new application and an appeal. The available procedure and deadline depend on the refusal and the official instructions. Resubmitting unchanged documents without addressing the stated concerns may not resolve the issue.

Sıkça Sorulan Sorular

The standard employee route generally requires a contract or other accepted employment evidence. Self-employment and certain special talent categories have different eligibility rules; looking for work is not equivalent to applying as an employee.
