France Family or Friend Visit Visa

Son güncelleme:

Who Should Apply for a France Family or Friend Visit Visa?

This short-stay Schengen visa is intended for Turkish citizens applying from Türkiye to visit relatives or friends in France. Typical purposes include spending time with family, visiting a friend or attending a private gathering. It does not authorise employment or long-term residence. Visits exceeding 90 days require a separate assessment of the appropriate long-stay visa category.

Turkish ordinary passport holders generally need a visa. Holders of special, service or diplomatic passports may benefit from short-stay exemptions, subject to current conditions. Certain family members of EU, EEA or Swiss citizens may qualify for different procedures. Establishing the family relationship and the circumstances of travel before applying helps identify the correct route.

Application Requirements

France should be your only or main destination. For a multi-country Schengen trip, the appropriate consulate is determined primarily by the main purpose or length of your stay. Where no main destination can be established and stays are equal, the first country of entry may determine where you apply. The overall limit is 90 days in any 180-day period across the Schengen area, subject to the permissions on your visa.

Your documents should explain why you are travelling, where you will stay, how expenses will be covered and why you intend to return to Türkiye. Employment, education, family responsibilities and financial circumstances can support this assessment. Travel dates, accommodation details and funding arrangements should be consistent throughout the application. A host's financial support does not remove the need to explain your own circumstances.

If you are staying in someone's home, an official attestation d'accueil, validated by the local French town hall, is generally required. An informal invitation letter is not always a substitute. Your host obtains this document in France; check your personalised checklist to establish whether the original must be submitted. Hotel stays and visits covered by special family-member rules may require different accommodation evidence.

Application Steps

  1. Confirm your category: Review your passport type, visit purpose, intended stay and any special family-member status.
  2. Complete the online application: Use France-Visas to enter your details and generate your form and personalised checklist.
  3. Prepare supporting documents: Collect accommodation evidence, financial records, occupational documents and travel medical insurance.
  4. Book an appointment: Follow official instructions for the authorised application centre and its current regional submission rules in Türkiye.
  5. Submit your application: Present your documents, pay the applicable charges and provide biometrics where required.
  6. Track the outcome: Respond to additional requests and check the visa details when your passport is returned.

Explain your relationship with the person you are visiting. Civil registration documents may establish family ties, while a brief account of your friendship and relevant supporting information can help explain a private visit. Keep the evidence focused rather than submitting extensive personal correspondence without a specific reason.

Appointments and Biometrics

Appointment availability varies by location and season. Applications can generally be lodged up to six months before departure. The time spent waiting for an appointment is separate from the processing period. Planning ahead is particularly useful during school holidays and other busy travel periods.

Fingerprints recorded for a previous Schengen application within the last 59 months may be reused in some cases. Nevertheless, fresh fingerprints or personal attendance can still be requested. Children under 12 are exempt from fingerprint collection, but they still need an application and the appropriate parental documents. Follow the centre's current attendance instructions.

Processing Time

A decision on an admissible application is generally made in approximately 15 calendar days. Cases requiring further examination may take up to around 45 calendar days. Document transfers and passport return arrangements can add time. These indicative periods should not be treated as a commitment that your passport will arrive before departure.

The consulate may request further evidence or an interview. Keep your contact details current and respond within the stated deadline. Paying for non-refundable travel before a decision involves financial risk; check what reservation evidence is required rather than assuming fully paid tickets are necessary.

Reasons an Application May Be Refused

Possible grounds include an unclear visit purpose, insufficient or unverifiable funds, inconsistent host details or doubts about departure from the Schengen area. Invalid insurance, unreliable documents, previous overstay issues and public-order considerations may also affect the decision. A complete document set does not by itself establish eligibility.

A refusal notice explains the grounds and the applicable appeal arrangements. Check that notice for the competent authority and deadlines. Before reapplying, address the reasons with relevant evidence. A visa also does not automatically establish a right of entry; keep accommodation and visit documents available when travelling.
