Who Can Apply for a Czech Family or Friend Visit Visa?
Turkish citizens planning a short stay with relatives or friends in the Czech Republic can apply for a category C Schengen visa for a private visit. This route is intended for temporary travel, not family reunification or long-term residence. It does not authorise paid employment, and the application should clearly explain the personal purpose of the visit.
Turkish ordinary passport holders generally require a visa. Holders of special, service or diplomatic passports may qualify for short-stay exemptions and should check current conditions before travelling. Short visits across the Schengen area generally cannot exceed 90 days in any 180-day period. The visa’s validity dates, permitted duration of stay and number of entries must also be respected.
Application Requirements
The Czech Republic should be your only or main destination. For trips covering several Schengen countries, the main destination depends on the purpose and length of each stay. Where no main destination can be identified, the country of first entry may determine where to apply. Applicants in Türkiye should check which consular office and application centre cover their residential address.
You should demonstrate why you are visiting, how you know your host and why you intend to return to Türkiye. Employment, studies, family responsibilities and financial circumstances can support the application. If your host pays some or all expenses, specify what the sponsorship covers. Financial support from a host does not automatically replace evidence of your own circumstances.
Your passport should have been issued within the previous ten years, contain at least two blank pages and remain valid for at least three months after your planned departure from Schengen territory. Travel medical insurance must cover the planned stay throughout the Schengen area, with minimum coverage of EUR 30,000, including emergency medical care and medical repatriation.
The invitation should identify both parties and explain the visit dates, accommodation arrangements and responsibility for expenses. An official invitation verified by the Czech authorities may be required depending on the circumstances. A personal invitation letter and an officially verified invitation are not interchangeable; consult the current checklist for applications from Türkiye, including any requirement to submit an original.
Application Steps
- Define your itinerary: Confirm whom you will visit, your dates, accommodation and any additional Schengen destinations.
- Collect supporting evidence: Obtain the invitation, host identification or residence documents, and evidence of your relationship and funding.
- Complete the form: Ensure dates, addresses and financial information match your supporting documents.
- Attend your appointment: Submit the application through the authorised channel, pay the applicable fees and complete any required biometrics.
- Follow the application: Respond to document requests and check the visa details when your passport is returned.
Consistency matters throughout the file. Your invitation, transport plans, approved leave and insurance should describe the same trip. Unless the current instructions specifically require otherwise, consider flexible bookings rather than non-refundable purchases before a decision. Any reservations submitted should reflect a genuine travel plan.
Appointments and Biometrics
Appointment availability varies by location and season. Applications can generally be lodged up to six months before the intended journey. Waiting for an appointment is separate from consular processing, so early preparation is advisable during busy periods. The application centre handles collection and administrative services; the competent consular authority decides whether to issue a visa.
Fingerprints recorded for a previous Schengen application within the last 59 months may be reused where the relevant conditions are met. However, fresh fingerprints or personal attendance can still be requested. Children under 12 are exempt from fingerprint collection. Applications for minors may require parental consent, custody records and documents explaining who will accompany them.
Processing Time
A complete, admissible application is generally assessed in approximately 15 calendar days. Cases requiring additional checks or documents may take around 45 calendar days. These timeframes do not promise a decision by a particular date. Appointment availability, document transfer and passport delivery can add time outside the assessment period.
Common Reasons for Refusal
Applications may be refused where the purpose of travel is unclear, the relationship with the host is insufficiently supported, funds are inadequate or documents contradict one another. Doubts about departure from Schengen territory, unsuitable insurance or previous breaches of stay conditions can also affect the outcome. An invitation alone does not establish eligibility.
A refusal notice explains the reasons and the available review or appeal procedure. Check that notice for the applicable deadline and submission requirements. Before applying again, address the reasons given rather than resubmitting an unchanged file.
